Should Performance enhancing drugs be accepted in sports?
The issue of using drugs to enhance athlete’s performance is controversial . those who agree to the use of drugs in enhancing performance say that most top players in all sports take drugs to train harder and feel no pain during play. The trainers, sports doctors, nutritionists, physiotherapists and managers of the big names make sure banned substances are taken at the safest and most efficient levels. The main effect of banning such substances has returned performers and their coaches into liars and cheaters.
On the other hand, some still believe that performance enhancing drugs in sport should be banned. Performance enhancing drugs are not only prohibited because they violate the spirit of sport but because they can damage the health of athletes.
I think the idea of allowing them in sports could lead to a situation whereby sportsmen and women are used as human guinea pigs for a constant flow of new, unregulated substances.

2.      What argument is given by those who disagree with the use of performance enhancing drugs?
A.   athletes health is badly affected.                              D. guinea pigs are awfully needed.
B.   athletes consume more drugs.                                   E. athletes obey the rules.
C.   athletes perform better.
3.      What is the writer’s intention to write the text?
A.   to persuade readers to agree with the issue.
B. to influence readers to oppose the issue.
C.   to describe performance enhancing drugs.
D. to entertain readers with the issue.
C.   to expose readers with the issue

The following text is for questions no 7-10

Biodiesel is a clean burning substitute for petroleum based diesel fuel. Biodiesel is made of vegetable oil.
To make or manufacture Biodiesel, you must first start with raw materials. The raw materials needed in the production of Biodiesel are a small amount of methanol and a ready supply of vegetable product. One of the most common vegetables used in the production of Biodiesel is corn, although depending on the geographic location of the manufacturing facility many other plants are used as well (rapeseed, soybeans, flaxseed, etc.). The first step is to use the raw vegetable product to make vegetable oil. Vegetable oil by itself will not be what you need to power a car, from here it has to be processed into Biodiesel.
The process for converting vegetable oil into Biodiesel is sometimes called ester interchange. To complete this process the vegetable oil has to be combined with a smaller amount of methanol and then put in the presence of a small quantity of an alkaline catalyst (for example, 5% to 1% sodium hydroxide). Vegetable oil is made up of so-called triglycerides, which is a compound of the trivalent alcohol glycerin with three fatty acids. The goal of ester interchange is to separate the glycerin molecule from the three fatty acids and replace it with three methanol molecules. This process then yields roughly 90% Biodiesel and 10% of a glycerin byproduct. The glycerin byproduct can be used in a number of other chemical processes for different industries.

7.      What is the text about?
A.   the process of making biodiesel.
B.   the advantage of using the biodiesel

B.   the glycerin molecule with three methanol molecules.
C.   methanol and alkaline catalyst.
D. methanol with the three fatty acids
E. vegetable oil with methanol
9.      According to the text, one of the advantages in using biodiesel is ... .
A.  it is cheap.                                                       D. it only uses vegetable oil.
B.   it uses replaceable materials.                          E. it can be done in small industry.

Charles Robert Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, on February 12, 1809. He came from a wealthy family and never had to work. He studied medicine and theology. In 1831 he graduated from University of Cambridge with a degree of theology.
He began a career as a scientist quite by chance. On December 27,1831, 22 years old Charles Darwin joined the crew of the HMS Beagle as a naturalist. The five years expedition collected hydrographic, geologic, and meteorologic data from South America and many other regions around the world. Darwin's own observation on this voyage led to his theory of natural selection.
Charles Darwin was greatly influenced by the geologist Adam Sedgwick and naturalist John Henslow in his development of the theory of natural selection, which was to become the foundation concept supporting the theory of evolution. Darwin's theory holds that environmental effects lead to varying degrees of reproductive success in individuals and groups of organisms. Natural selection tends to promote adaptation in organisms when necessary for survival. This revolutionary theory was published in 1859 in Darwin's now famous On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection

Nowadays, many people have realized that agriculture is much more important than other supporting tools in economic development . In Indonesia, agriculture should be the priority of development because of some good reasons.
First of all, the agriculture`s contribution in the beginning of the development of the country was the highest of all sectors. At present, almost half of the total Indonesian labors are working in the agriculture sectors, but the contribution of the agriculture sector does not reach 30 percents. Second, the agriculture sector is expected to fulfil the need of food in the country. As the number of population increases in an alarming rate each year, food supply must also increase but the agricultural production per capita never increases more than one percent each year, and in some extreme cases, it is ever stagnant.
Last but not least, without agricultural development, the growth of the industrial sector will be hampered because the growth that comes from industry will bring a wider gap into the internal economy in that country. In turn, this gap will create serious poverty problems, wider inequality of income distribution, and increase unemployment.
It is therefore, obvious that the government should put agriculture as the priority of national development

  1. the text is about ... .
A.   the importance of agriculture in economic development
B.   the agriculture contribution in the development of the country
C.   the growth of industrial sector in the country
D.   the quality of agriculture in the country

Once a memory is created, it must be stored (no matter how briefly). Many experts think there are three ways we store memories: first in the sensory stage; then in short- term memory; and ultimately, for some memories, in long-term memory. Because there is no need for us to maintain everything in our brain, the different stages of human memory function as a sort of filter that helps to protect us from the flood of information that we're confronted with on a daily basis.
The creation of a memory begins with its perception: The registration during perception occurs in the brief sensory stage that usually lasts only a fraction of a second. It’s your sensory memory that allows a perception such as a visual pattern, a sound, or a touch to linger for a brief moment after the stimulation is over.
After the tirst flicker, the sensation is stored in short-term memory. Short-term memory has a fairly limited capacity; it can hold about seven items for no more than 20 or 30 seconds at a time.
Important information is gradually transfered from short-term memory into long- term memory. The more the information is repeated or used, the more likely it eventually end up in long-term memory, or to be "retained." Unlike sensory short-term memory, which are limited and decay rapidly, long-term memory can store unlimited amounts of information idenfinitely.
People tend to more easily store material on subjects that they already know something about, since the information has more meaning to them and can be mentally connected to related information that is already stored in their long-term memory. That's why someone who has an average memory may be able to remember a greater depth of information about one particular subject

What is the benefit of tourism for local people? Well, Tourism is now a huge contributor to the economies of most countries. Tourism industries can bring money, job vacancy and advancement especially to developing regions. However, this money often goes into the pockets of foreign investors, and only rarely benefits for local people.
Tourism industries will not give much benefit for local people if, for example, multinational hotel chains don't care about the surrounding nature when they build new hotels. This can cause many social, cultural and geographical problems. Some local people may get job and money from that International hotel chain. However in case of missing that opportunity, some of them still have their own environment.
Moreover, some facts show that tourists tend to go, visit and spend their money in restaurants, bars and even luxury hotels of that multinational chains. They less go to such places; restaurant, bar, hotel, shop which are owned by local people. This can prevent the local people's business from becoming even larger.
Most important thing, tours or excursions of tourism have little effect on nature. Even it can disrupt or destroy ecosystems and environments, and if it does, the local people will get the risk. So the local government policies should be put in place to ensure that tourism will make the benefit spreading widely. The policies should guarantee that tourism will not cause any harm to any local people or places.

Remote sensing is the acquisition of information about an object or phenomenon, without making physical contact with the object. In modern usage, the term generally refers to the use of aerial sensor technology to detect and classify objects on Earth (both on the surface, and in the atmosphere and ocean) by means of propagated signals (e.g. electromagnetic radiation emitted from aircraft or satellites).
There are two main types or remote sensing: passive remote sensing and active remote sensing. Passive sensors detect natural radiation that is emitted or reflected by the objects or surrounding area being observed. Reflected sunlight is the most common source of radiation measured by passive censors. Examples of passive remote sensors include film photography, infra-red, charge-coupled devices, and radiometers. Active collection, on the other hand, emits energy in order to scan objects and areas whereupon a sensor then detects and measures the radiation that is reflected or backscattered from the target. RADAR and LIDAR are examples of active remote sensing where the time delay between emission and return is measured, stabilizing the location, height, speed and direction of an object.
Remote sensing makes it possible to collect data on dangerous or an accessible area. Remote sensing application include monitoring deforestation in areas such as Amazon basin, glacial features in Arctic an Antarctic regions, and depth sounding of coastal and ocean depths. Military collection during the Cold War made us of stand-off collection data baout dangerous border areas. Remote sensing also replaces costly and slow the data collection on the ground, ensuring in the process that areas or objects are not disturbed.

After inventing dynamite, Swedish-born Alfred Nobel became a very rich man. However, he foresaw its universally destructive powers too late. Nobel preferred not to be remembered as the inventor of dynamite, so in 1895, just two weeks before his death, he created a fund to be used for awarding prizes to people who had made ... (29) … contributions to mankind. Originally there were five awards: literatures, physics, chemistry, medicine, and peace. Economics was added in 1968, just sixty-seven years after the first awards ceremony.
Nobel’s original legacy of nine million dollars was … (30) …, and the interest on this sum is used for the awards which vary from $30,000 to $125,000.
Every year on December 10, the anniversary of Nobel’s death, the awards are gold medal, illuminated diploma, and money. The awards are presented to the winners. Sometimes politics plays an important role in the judges’ decision. Americans have won numerous science awards, but relatively few literature prizes.
